Our Story

about parula Farm

We grow using practices that build soil health through cover cropping, crop rotation, and plant designated areas for native plants. We never use any synthetic chemical fertilizers or pesticides. We want our farm to be a place where wildlife and beneficial insects thrive. We have a deep love for the natural world and strive for our farm to be a reflection of that. We believe that this approach will yield some of the best, healthiest food for our community.

The farm is named after the Northern Parula bird, a small wooden warbler with beautiful blue and yellow coloring. It’s one of Nathan and Mary’s favorite birds and a seasonal visitor to the farm.

Meet the team

Mary Trimble and Nathan Cross met working together at Harvest Green, and connected over their love of farming, hiking, and bird watching. Together, they dreamed up the vision for Parula Farm, combining 15 years of farming experience, a whole lot of passion, and the Texas sun to grow healthy vegetables to the Greater Houston community. Of course, we can’t forget about Chloe, our Houston street dog, turned coach potato, turned farm dog. She is the real boss around here!
